Merhaba from turkey.

So manythings to share and update but so little time (so do excuse my bad grammar and run-on sentences)

I'm loving it here.  Not because it is far away and not because the school and living quarters are amazing, but because its Turkey and because it is so different.  Bilkent U is seriously a crazy crazy school.  Everything looks new here and everyone is soo hospitable.  Our student hosts have been taking us around to different restaurants, different stores, getting our little errands done.  They've been amazing and so helpful.

I'm loving meeting international students.  I've met people from Germany, Iceland, Finland, Ecuador, Iran, Afghanistan, Northern Africa, Polland, Holland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, different parts of America, Armenia, Austria, and more.  It's awesome to meet people from such different backgrounds.  I'm trying my best to soak it all in.

Today is my third day in the Intensive Turkish course.  Our teacher is a great instructor.  Whenever we say a word right, she repeatedly commends us with "bravo bravo" or "evet evet" (yes yes).

Everything here is sooooooooo clean, but then again Ankara is the capital of the country.

The food is great!!  I've been regular.  :)

The campus is HUGE.

I'm real glad that I'm here.  Everyone should come here!!  :)  until next time,

gurusuruz!!

going for real . . .

So I'm leaving for Turkey in four days, and I am freaking out.

People ask me if I'm ready to go or if I'm excited. I notice that I always just tell them that I'm not excited or that I feel like I'm ready but I only say that because it hasn't really hit me that I'm going yet.  Things tend to hit me really slowly but when it does it usually happens when I'm packing . . . and when that happens I'm freaking out . . . like right now.

Even though I have a ridiculously in depth packet that tells me everything I need to know, I still don't know what to do.  I don't know what to pack.  I've started putting things in a luggage but I know I'm missing everything.  What if I forget this.  I have to pack for a few months and that's the longest I've ever been out of the country by myself.  What if I do this I'll need this.  I can't bring this because they'll confiscate it at the airport.  blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

I can't believe I'm going to such a far far away land.

This xanga is going to become the avenue in which I vent. no good.

i got kinda freaked out about sharks and surfing so . . .

How to Prevent a Shark Attack

(JUST IN CASE!!)

  1. Stay out of shark-infested waters.
    • Heed warnings.
    • Avoid steep dropoffs
    • Avoid waters contaminated with effluents or sewage.
    • Avoid swimming near fishing activity.
  2. Know your shark.
  3. Carry a weapon.
  4. Dress appropriately.
  5. Be vigilant.
  6. Move gracefully.
  7. Swim in a group.
  8. Recognize aggressive behavior.
  9. Stay out of the water at night and during dawn and dusk. Sharks hunt most actively at these times, and they're harder for you to see in dark conditions.
  10. Stay out of the water if bleeding.
  11. Avoid provoking sharks.
